MR J. W. MAWSON
RETIREMENT ANNOUNCED P.A. WELLINGTON, June 3. The Minister of Works, Mr Semple, announced to-day that Mr J. W. Mawson, formerly Government town planning officer, and at the date of his retirement planning consultant to the Ministry of Works, retired from the public service from the > end of last month. Mr Semple said Mr Mawson had reached the age when he was entitled to retire from the public service. The Government, with l egret, had acceded to his request to be permitted to do so. Mr Mawson came to Neyv Zea-
land in 1928 with excellent credentials in the planning field and such progress as had been made in town planning since 1928 had largely been due to his efforts. The Government is not to be deprived of Mr Mawson’s services altogether,- as he will be. retained in the capacity of planning consultant for the next few years.
