FIRES CAUSE DAMAGE

Slight damage to the wall of the Presbyterian Church at Maori Hill and to the interior of one room of a dwelling at Alva street was caused by fires yesterday afternoon. The fire at the church arose from burning rubbish, and took place about 1 p.m., and that at the residence was caused by a defect In an electric water heating system. The City Fire Brigade was called out at 3 p.m. A chimney fire at Main South road at 6.1 < pm. and a false alarm from Napier Motors at 6.46 p.m. were the only calls received later yesterday by the brigade.
