PALESTINE INQUIRY

DISPLACED PERSONS' CAMPS DECISION FOR INSPECTION POSTPONED Rec. 11 p.m. .NEW YORK. June 2. The United Nations Palestine Inquiry Commission held its first regular business meeting to-day, when delegates agreed -to postpone their decision on the inspection of European displaced persons’ camps until after the commission completes its investigation of the Holy Land. It was also decided against hearing 15 local , petitioners who demanded audiences. Inadequate time was given as the reason for both decisions, but the United Press comments that the com- ■ mission thereby temporarily avoided two issues which could have led io ] charges of partisanship—the Jewish organisations have been urging that the commission visit the camns before going to Palestine while the Arabs have opposed that procedure. The commission elected Chief Justice Emil Sandstrum, of Sweden, as chairman.
