CHRISTCHURCH. June 3. Some of the Riccarton horses did well over the week-end. At Wingatui, Roman Son had a win and a second, and Tranbycroft, Night Blush, and Klrkella also won, while Front Page (twice), Night Prince (twice), Commemorate, Indian Sign, Eudora, and Deep Harmony were placed. Test Pilot had a win and a third at Wanganui, where Olga's Choice was second. . , Old Faithful is the latest Riccarton horse to be tried hs a jumper. He is shaping well In his early efforts over the pony hurdles. • Miss Medley was unable to race at the Dunedin meeting because of an injury to a hock while on the train trip to Wingatui. She will need a rest, but T. H. Gillett hopes that the trouble will not be serious. . . , . . C. T. Wilson received a kick on his right shin prior to the start of the second race at Wingatui yesterday, and he had to miss his later riding engagements, which included Hansel, the winner of the concluding event. He has
returned home, and he was at the track this morning. He will go south again for the third day, when he will have the mount on Pensacola and Hansel. Bruce has come in from his spell looking in great order to start on a preparation for next season’s racing. As a result of his good form, he has reached a weight at which the winning of handicaps will be difficult, and there are not many suitable weight-for-age events in the Dominion. With this in mind, a visit to Australia has been discussed, and as a preliminary L. J. Ellis has nominated him for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.
