TELEPHONE SERVICE
ISSUE OF NEW DIRECTORIES MANY NUMBERS CHANGED It is expected that delivery of the new telephone directories will be commenced by the Post and Telegraph Denartment within a few days. The provision of new telephone exchanges at Anderson’s Bay and North-East Valley has necessitated the changing of many telephone numbers, though this will not actually take effect until the new exchanges are cut into service. It is anticipated that this will be at approximately 11 p m. on June 14.
Although the new directories will be delivered to subscribers prior to that date, the authorities emphasise that they should not be used until after the new exchanges are brought into operation on June 14. A notification to this effect will appear on the out, side cover of the new directory. Applications for telephone services are still coming forward, and the Daily Times was informed yesterday that after the number of new connections to be cut into service in June is deducted, the number of persons on the waiting list will still be approximately 2000, leaving the position much as it was a few months ago.
