AUCKLAND MEETING

PREPARATIONS AT ELLERSLIE Special to the Daily Times AUCKLAND. May 29. Some interesting jumping was witnessed at Ellerslie this morning, when hurdles on the outside of the course proper and the steeplechase course were available. The schooling hurdles in the middle were also in use. Good displays over hurdles were given by Gay Fort, King’s Ace, Good Armour and Brantome, and over country by Oemo, Roman Orator, Town Survey, and Rival. On the course proper, Airlie and Kouraaka jumped four hurdles very caticfaptnTilv King’s Ace" (Williamson) and Gay Fort (Hawes) jumped four hurdles attractively, King’s Ace finishing slightly in front. Gay Fort seems to have thrown off the tenderness which affected him earlier in .the week. King’s Ace is not engaged on Saturday, but is expected to race on the later days of the meeting. Good Armour (Hsin) went pleasingly in a bout over four hurdles with Esmonde (Coon). He appears to have improved with his recent racing at Te Rapa, ana may perform solidly in the Great Northern Hurdles, which he won two years ago. In his best form.' Good Armour is a very solid hurdler who stays well, and is also partial to heavy going. Esmonde showed promise as a hurdler when he finished second to Foxstar at Te Rapa on May 17. Brantome (R. Collett) went nicely over four hurdles. He looks improved after his race in the Waikato, Hurdles, when he tired quickly after going about a mile and a-half. and finished a long way back. Town Survey (Winder) and Rival (L. Collett) gave a fine display over 15 fences, going smoothly all the way and jumping evenly and cleanly. Town Survey was going the stronger at the finish, and gained friends for the Great Northern Steeplechase on Monday. Roman Orator (Sinton) went very boldly over the fences on the flat. Oemo (Williamson) and Sir Sa)adin (McColl) gave a very satisfactory display over a, round. Kalmanagh (Walsh) began with them, but fell at the second fence on the hill. She did not appear to suffer any ill-effects from the fall.
