ANTI-COMMUNIST PROPAGANDA
Sir,—Walter G. Cope would do well to remember that it is not wise for people who live in glass houses to throw stones, and that a Communist should be the last person in the world to do so. From the outbreak of war in 1939 till to-day everv device of distortion, every form of treachery and misrepresentation, has been used by the apostles of this, the vilest and most vicious creed on earth to overthrow the British Empire and destroy our way of life. When reading the vapourings of such champions of Communism as Mr Cope, let us not forget that Communism, Fascism and Naziism are all grown on the same tree, all bound together with the same tie of common ideologies the same ideas, and orinciples, and all recognise the Church, Capitalism and Imperialism as their common enemy. He says " Imperialism is responsible for all our wars and the slaughter of millions of men.” Has he forgotten how millions were slaughtered or starved to death when the Bolsheviks were killing off their intellectuals, or how the Communists abused the white flag and shot stretcher bearers and murdered thosands of innocent 'hostages in Greece? Has he forgotten that the totalitarian countries were the best prepared for war and that the capitalist countries, Britain, France and America, were not, simply because they preferred peace to war and Its horrors?
Mr Cope says “ By their fruits ye shall know them.” That is true, and probably that is why Dr P. J. Ryan said, ’’ Communism to-day is a totally atheistic and godless system that would not stop at murder to gain its ends.” The president of the Australian Council of Trade Unions also said that the Communist ban on the building of the rocket research station was the desire of Russia to delay rocket and atomic research by all Powers except herself. Are we likely to forget the British-born traitors who, when Britain stood alone, and women and children were being killed and maimed in Britain, did everything in their power to assist the enemy in destroying the Empire? Have we forgotten their pamphlets and their slogans— “ No unity with the British Imperialists but unity with the Soviet Union, the home of Socialism." “No Conscription,” “ Not a man, not a ship, and not a gun for Britain's Imperialistic War.” Yes, we know the Communists by their fruits all right.—l am, etc., Matilda.
