AMERICAN WOOL BILL
SEARCH FOR COMPROMISE,
Rec. 10 p.m. WASHINGTON, May 28. The chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, Mr George Aiken (Republican, Vermont), to-day predicted that the joint conference of the House and the Senate would work out a compromise Wool Bill which would not hamper American negotiations at Geneva for freer trade and would not deny American woolgrowers adequate protection. Mr Aiken, who will lead the Senate conferences, said he saw no insuperable obstacles to a compromis l Bill acceptable to both the Undei Secretary of State, Mr William Clay ton and to the Agriculture Departmeni It is understood that Mr Clayton wifi participate in the joint conference discussions. He will not return to Geneva until the whole issue is settled or sufficient progress made to assure him that the Bill's final form will not prejudice the Geneva negotiations.
