MOTORISTS INJURED
THREE CARS SMASHED Special to the Daily Times OAMARU, May 25. Three occupants of cars involved in a motor smash half a mile north of Pukeuri at 7 o’clock on Saturday night, received injuries necessitating their removal to hospital, but eight hockey girls in one of the cars, which was overturned, perhaps twice, had a remarkable escape from injury. The injured are:— Jack Crawford. 3 Elliott street, Anderson’s Bay, head injuries, deep concussion, and shock. ' Phillip Edward Ruston, 30 Leith street, Dunedin, shock and superficial cuts on the face. William Brown, 77 Humber street, Oamaru, injuries to the knee. It appears that a car going from Oamaru to Waimate, driven by R. E. CamAon, of Waimate, was returning to Waimate with eight hockey players, and when half a mile past Pukeuri there was a collision with a car containing Messrs Ruston and Crawford. The Waimate car was struck on the side, and turned over. It was thrown'off the bitumen to the side of the road. The top was smashed, but the eight girls were uninjured. The Dunedin car was on the bitumen, and a couple of minutes later a car driven by William Brown, coming from Timaru, crashed into it. All three cars were extensively damaged. Dr E. E. Butler, of Oamaru, went to the scene and gave medical attention to the injured men, and took them in his car to the Oamaru Public Hospital.
