NOTES FROM RICCARTON

SALARY SORE AGAIN Special to The Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, May 2. The Ashburton County Handicap has a field that will provide a problem for backers. Belle Leonne is sure to be fancied, as she has improved with the three races she has had since she resumed. Of the other Riccarton candidates, Foxhaven has not paid a dividend in twelve starts this season. Falconbridge, Miss Medley and Graeme have good prospects on their best form, but they are unreliable. , , , Salary, who has not been sound for some time, has gone sore again and he will not race at Ashburton. T H. Gillett will have to ease him up. Test Pilot, who is in the field for the Ashburton County Handicap, has not had a race since he won the Sydenham Hurdles at Riccarton last August. He is booked to go north this month for steeplechases at Wanganui and the chief flat events at Ashburton will help to fit him for his jumping programme. Pandosto was an acceptor in two races at Ashburton but he will not be a starter in either of them. It has been thought wise to give him an easy time before he leaves on Monday for Wellington, on his way to Australia. C. McDonald will now have the ride on Cipher in the Eiffelton Handicap.
