REBUFF TO LABOUR
STRIKES IN AUSTRALIA
REFLECTION IN STATE ELECTIONS
Daily Times Special Service
AUCKLAND, May 2.
The opinion that as a result of the general industrial situation, and in particular the strike in. Victoria, the Labour Party would suffer a severe rebuff in the elections in Queensland and New South Wales to-morrow, was expressed by Mr F. W. Doidge, M.P..
on his return from Sydney by flyingboat. He added that although it was not to be expected that the Labour Government in New South Wales would be dismissed, he thought its majority would be very much reduced. “The people of Australia have decided that a stand must be taken against this disruption, and as far as I have been able to gather during my visit there, they will take it at the ballot box to-morrow,” said Mr Doidge. “The whole industrial situation is uneasy, and one of the main fears is that the Victoria strike will spread to other States. There is no doubt that the strike will influence a number of voters away from the present Government.”
