LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
A meeting of the Otago Provincial Committee of the League of Mothers was held last Thursday morning in the Pioneer Women’s Memorial Hail, when Mrs P. H. Jones presided and extended a welcome to all present. In her remarks, Mrs Jones brought before the members the high ideals for which the league stands. She said that in reading of the royal tour she noticed that what seemed to appeal to the South Africans was the evidence of very real affection which existed between the members of the Royal Family and the importance the King and Queen placed on home and family life. Opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mrs G. H. Seddon, who is removing to Auckland. Mrs Jones spoke of her work in the league during her 12 years’ residence in Dunedin, and asked her to accept a small token of appreciation and affection. Members were notified that it was hoped to arrange a town and country meeting to be held in Milton on the same lines as the ni°eting held in Balclutha last year. It was felt that great help is given to the country branches through these meetings. The president thanked all branches for the excellent attendance at the annual church service. Reports on finance and supplies were received from Mrs McDonald and Mrs Davidson. An interesting and comprehensive report of the business discussed at the Dominion Council meetings held recently . Auckland was given by Mrs Jones. Coinciding with this meeting was the nventy-first birthday celebration of the L.O.M. in the Town Hall, at which Lady Freyberg was the speaker. Mrs Davidson gave a full and detailed account of this meeting, which she and Mrs Jones attended as representatives from Otago and Southland.
