MARKET IN JAPAN
NEW ZEALAND WOOL EARLY RESUMPTION LIKELY P.A. WELLINGTON, Apl. 21. Early resumption on a limited scale of a wool trade between New Zealand and Japan is viewed by those in the industry as likely. This follows arable message to the effect that New Zealand had offered Japan 200,000 bales of wool. It is understood that the quantity mentioned, in the type of wool formerly supplied to Japan. - will be available from the Wool Disposal Commission, and that arrangements have been concluded for handling it These arrangements, however, are still dependent on details of a political nature being settled between the Government and the control authorities in Japan. The transaction is naturally of a very different nature from the export of wool to non-belligerent countries, and detail? of payment and control of distribution will be settled between the Allied Control Council and the New Zealand Government.
There is no suggestion ,of individual Japanese manufacturing concerns operating on their own account for wool.
Shipping firms are of the opinion that shipping wool to Japan would present no problem, as there is now a regular service to the East. Ships have already loaded in New Zealand for Japan and others will be available from time to time. One company which trades between Australia and the East and frequently extends its service to New Zealand would probably arrange to lift wool cargoes when they became available.
