DATE TO STAND
ASSEMBLY OF PARLIAMENT PRIME MINISTER’S ASSERTION P.A. ' AUCKLAND, Apl. 21. The decision of the Government to assemble the new Parliament on June 25 will stand regardless of representations on the subject, said the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, in a letter to the Mayor of Auckland, Mr J, A. C. Allum. Mr Fraser was replying to a communication in which Mr Allum explained that many requests had been received for a public meeting to discuss the power, coal and gas shortages. He had also been asked to urge the Prime Minister to call Parliament together immediately to deal with the crisis . After thanking the Mayor for his letter, Mr Fraser said the question of a public meeting was, of course, entirely a matter for Mr Allum’s judgment and discretion. For good and adequate reasons, it had been decided that Parliament would meet on June 25, and that that decision would stand regardless of representations on the subject unless something totally unforeseen should arise either nationally or internationally to make an earlier meeting imperative.
