ANNUAL PICNIC
A successful outing was held by the combined Friendly Societies and friends on Saturday at the Wingatui Racecourse, when the annual picnic was held, some 700 to 800 members travelling out by rail and car. The' day was warm, and the staff on the ice cream stall had a busy day, as did all the members of the com.mittee. The sports programme was in the hands of Bro O Smith, assisted by Bro. A. J. Hunt
: The races,' which were very keenly contested, resulted as follows:—Single Ladles (lodge members).—Sis. E. Garland 1, Sis. M. Ayson 2; Married Lady members —Sis. Deuchrass 1, Sis. Moorhead 2; Elderly Sisters—Sis. Ayson 1, Sis. Gaudin 2; Single Male members—Bro. Strang: Married Male members—Bro. Deuchrass; Old Buffers Bro. Hunt; Visitors, Single Ladies, Miss Osmond; Maried Ladies, Mrs Fraser; Maried Men, Mr Fraser; Juvenile members —Girls 8 to 9 years, Sis. Deuchrass; 10 to 12, Sis. Burridge; 13 to 15, Sis. Adam; 16 to 18, Sis. Garland; Boys, 8 to 9, Bro. Thompson; 10 to 12, Bro. Wil-i son; 13 to 15, and 16 to 18, Bro. Todd. The respective sections for visiting children were won by Misses Duechrass. Youngman, Morris and Osmond, and by Masters Bryan. Bungard, Burridge, and Blakely The relay race for female members was won by Sisters Garland, Tippet, Hadfield and Osmond, and for male members by juvenile Bros. Hynes, McAuliff, Wilson and Young The winners of the relay for adult members were Bros. Strang, Main, Whyte, and Blakely The three-legged races were won by Sisters Oldham and Burridge (juveniles), by Sisters Osmond and Tippet, and Sisters Ledgerwood and Wilson (adults) by Bros. Bungard and.Hopkin (boys), and by Sisters Duechrass and Nelson, and Bros. McAuliff and Henderson (adults). The tug-of-war was won by a juvenile team of brothers from Mornington, and for the girls by a mixed team of sisters. A feature of the day was the baby show, the judge having no easy task. The winners were—Up to 6 months. Baby Knox 1, Baby Lindsay 2; from 6 to 12 months, Baby Murray 1, Baby Duikmanton 2, Mrs Roberts won the special prize for the largest famijy on the ground.
