AUSTRALIAN SPRINTER

HIGH PRAISE FROM AMERICAN Rec. 7 p.m. SYDNEY. Feb 28. The Australian sprinter, John Treloar, was the nearest approach to world championship class he had seen, said Mr A. L. Hershey, the American athlete, when he arrived from New Zealand by the Tasman flying boat. “Treloar is the greatest sprinting prospect I have seen in 20 years in athletics.” he said “He is the nearest approach I have seen to the world champion and joint record holder, Jesse Owens. He has apparently been very well coached and tutored. Last week, at Christchurch, he ran 100 yards in 9.6 on a grass track, which would be the equivalent of a world’s record on cinders.”
