SMALL SAILING CRAFT

FREQUENCY OF ACCIDENTS PREVENTIVE REGULATIONS P.A. WELLINGTON, Feb. 28. Regulations designed to reduce the frequency of accidents to small sailing craft in New Zealand have been drawn up by the Marine Department and will be submitted shortly to yachting clubs for comment and possible amendment befgre finally becoming law. The regulations are a result of recommendations made by the police and other officials throughout the Dominion following the disturbing increase in yachting fatalities during last season. They are expected to introduce a more rigid control of yachting races and launch excursions, particularly deep-sea events such as the Cook Strait Yacht Race, which last December produced one drowning fatality and gave the rescue authorities considerable anxiety and trouble. It is believed that the regulations also contain provision for improved rescue facilities and will stipulate that all craft must carry proper life-saving equipment.
