WAR MEMORIAL

PROJECT FOR MOSGIEL

A public meeting was held in the Coronation Hall, Mosgiel, on Thursday night to consider proposals for the erection of a suitable war memorial for the district. _ Tr . The Mayor of Mosgiel, Mr W. P. Hart* stonge, who convened the meeting, explained that the money left over from the Patriotic Fund would probably be used for s the addition of a suitable plaque to the present war memorial in the park. No plan had yet been formed for the erection of a district memorial, but the Government had promised a subsidy of equal value to the money collected for this purpose. Mr Quelch proposed that a committee be set up to consider and receive suggestions for a suitable type of memorial, the committee to submit these proposals to a public meeting In six months’ time. The following were elected:—Messrs Scott, Pugh, Quelch, Boyd, Hartstonge, and Tourelle. , Suggestions are invited from residents of the district, and these may be left at the office of the town clerk, Coronation Hall. The meeting offered the following suggestions:—A hall with rooms to be used as R.S.A. clubrooms; a memorial park: a memorial gate; heating for the Taieri Baths; additions and extensions to the Coronation Hall; a memorial roadway and overhead bridge.
