CHAMPIONSHIPS CONTINUED YOUNG PLAYER’S SUCCESS P.A. WANGANUI, Feb. 28. A boy aged 13 won the Double B Flat Bass Solo at the Dominion Brass Bands Championship contest to-day. He was D. B. Dewe, of the Feilding Municipal Band. He gained 49 points out of 50, and the judge, Mr H. Niven, of Melbourne, said it was a fine performance. The placings were:— D. B. Dewe (Feilding Municipal), 49 points 1 M. A. Connors (Wanganui Garrison), 44 points 2 K. E. Oliver (Ashburton Silver), 43 points 3 W. Deere (Christchurch Municipal), 42 points 4 C Grade Test. Own Choice Hawera Municipal Auxiliary, 147 points 1 Crichton Cobbers (Toe H), of Christchurch, 143 points .. .. 2 Auckland City Boys, 142 points .. 3 Wellington Boys’ Institute, 140 points 4 Rangiora Brass, 137 points .. .. 5 Patea Municipal, 135 points .. .. 6 Six bands competed. Tenor Trombone Solo J. P. Clague (Auckland Watersiders’ Band), 96 points 1 L. M. Carruthers (Woolston) *B7 points .. 2 N. Mclver (Lower Hutt), 86 points 3 There were 22 competitors.
