PALMERSTON SALE
DEMAND FOR PADDOCK LAMBS The Palmerston stock sale yesterday attracted an entry of 3761 sheep and 112 cattle. , , The bulk of the sheep offered comprised wether lambs, several excellent lines of these being penned. Forward paddock lambs solicited keen competition throughout. Medium grades, principally tussock lambs, did not meet with the same demand, it being noticeable that buyers showed preference for the better class. The latter were slow of sale, and barely maintained late parity. Odd small lines of ewe lambs were readily disposed of. Some of the first annual draft ewes were offered, and sold readily at values slightly enhanced on last season’s rates. A few pens of wethers also met a ready sale. Most of the competition was from North Otago buyers. The cattle entry was comprised principally of young cattle, both steers and heifers. These did not meet with as keen competition as has been experienced at this centre, and one or two pens failed to find buyers. Values are as follows: In the sheep section forward wether lambs made to 25s 9d; good wether lambs, 23s to 24s lOd; medium wether lambs, 19s to 21s; cull wether lambs, to 13s; best ewe lambs, to 28s Id; medium grades, 25s to 26s 6d; small ewe lambs, 18s to 20s 6d; mixed-sex lambs, to 25s 3d; mixedage Romney cross ewes, to 295; four-year-old Romney cross ewes, to 275; five-year-old Romnev cross ewes, to 22s 6d; fullmouth halfbred ewes, 15s 6d to 17s 6d; two-tooth wethers, to 26s 6d; two and four-tooth wethers, to 265; six and eighttooth wethers, to 265.
