WEE GEORGIE WOOD
VISIT TO AUSTRALIA p.A. AUCKLAND, Feb. 5. One of England's most beloved comedians, Wee Georgie Wood —he stands only four feet—arrived, by air yesterday from America and left for Australia by flying boat this morning. The little comedian, who still plays juvenile roles, was frank about his previous appearances in New Zealand. “ I first came here in 1922 and_ was a big success. I came back in 1925 and was a hopeless failure. It was mainly because I had such a swollen head in those days.” he said. During the war Wee Georgie Wood travelled 63.000 miles in overseas theatres of war entertaining troops, and for his efforts was awarded the 0.8. E. After Australian appearances he plans to return to Britain and form a touring company of young artists seeking a start in the profession. The scheme, which has the approval of the British Government, is to be non-pro-fit-making.
