ENCOURAGING SIGNS

UNITY OF FRENCH PUBLIC PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION FACILITATED , (Bee. 11.30 p.m.) LONDON, Jan.. 8. The enthusiasm with which the French public is supporting M. Blum's Government in its campaign for lower prices is expected to facilitate the formation of a new Government when the president of the republic is elected in about a week’s time, says the Daily Telegraph’s Paris correspondent. A number of party leaders on the Right and an influential section ol M. Bidault’s Popular Republican Party want to see M. Blum’s Government reinstated by the new President. They claim that events have already demonstrated that only a homogeneous team can really rule the country. The Communists regard this attitude as a manoeuvre to keep them from office, and are expected to temper their demands when Cabinet negotiations begin. They favour a coalition on the lines, of the National Government which M Blum failed to form last month.
