SOUTHLAND NOTES
MANIOTOTO RETIRED TO STUD (Special) INVERCARGILL. Jan. 7. The Invercargill apprentice, B. S. Wilson, left for Trentham at the week-end. He has been engaged to ride Patmos, Grill and Frances all members of D. P. Wilson's Mosgiel team, at the Wellington meeting. B. S. Wilson has been riding In his best form this season, and besides having an unbeaten record on Excellency, he won the Invercargill Cup on Aurora Australis, and the Open Mile on Grill and the Gladstone Hurdles on French Knight on the second day. W. Hillls left for Wellington to-day, and will ride Amorlad in his hurdle engagements. Aurora Australis will not be raced at Trentham, and she will oe given a chance to freshen up. N. A. Crombie has been engaged to ride Sailor's Pal, Red Prize, Sweet Sal, Winning Cheer, and Bath Slipper at the Vincent meeting on Friday. Maniototo has not fully recovered from being cast In his box at the Dunedin meeting, and the Manitoba horse is to be retired to the Chelandry stud. The Paper Money mare. Green Note, in foal to Royal Chief, is to be sent to the Trentham sales next week Green Note was a useful sprint winner when raced as a member of T. E. Pankhurst's team.
