DESTROYED BY FIRE

“ BENDEMEER " HOMESTEAD PROPERTY OF MR K. A. L. HAGGITT (Special) ARROWTOWN, Jan. 3. The “ Bendemeer ” homestead, the property of Mr K. A. L. Haggitt, was completely destroyed by fire on New Year’s Day. At the time of the outbreak the members of the household were attending a function at Arrowtown and were not aware of the fire until one of the employees, on arriving Dome, found the place ablaze and out of control. He immediately returned to inform- the owner,. who found the house completely gutted, nothing being saved.

The origin of the fire is unknown. The building and contents were insured in the New Zealand Insurance Company’s office. This building was one of the oldest in the district.
