AI-Sirat Principal Winner DERENE SUCCESSFUL IN SPRINT Final Event To Beautiful The Oamaru Jockey Club’s meeting was held yesterday in fine but overcast weather, and attracted a large attendance. The going was again in splendid order. Al-Sirat ran his best race for some time to win the President’s Handicap. His rider kept him right up to his work in the straight, and he won by a wide margin and full of running. Derene, who got away badly on New Year’s Day, bounced out smartly in the Flying Handicap and led throughout. The surprise was the good price Whitley paid for a place after his win on Wednesday. , During the day the totalisator handled £33,289, compared with £30,712 last year.

Double Cross, Eastern Coin and Lovemorn. With five furlongs to run, Fort Silver took over . the running from Kiloney, Eastern Coin, Gold Lance, Double Cross, Al-Sirat and Lovemorn. A furlong further on Fort Silver was still showing the way from Kiloney, with Eastern Coin, Al-Sirat and Double Cross practically together ahead of Lovemorn. AlSirat put in a fast run which took him into the lead at the straight entrance from Kiloney, Double Cross, Eastern Coin, Gold Lance and Lovemorn. Fort Silver dropped out. In the straight Al-Sirat went right away to win by four lengths from Double Cross, who was the same distance ahead of Singing Hills, who came from well back. Lovemorn was fourth
ahead of Eastern Coin, Gold Lance and Falconbridge. Kiloney disappeared in the run home. Waitaki Handicap .When the field settled down Tikakoura was clear of Night Fighter, followed by Rampage, Wild Ribbon, Ever Ready, Gay Joy and Wee Mac. At the half mile Tikakoura still showed the way to Night Fighter, with Wild Ribbon and Ever Ready moving up. Tikakoura showed the way into the straight from Wild Ribbon, Every Ready and Night Fighter, who appeared to be boxed on the rails. Tikakoura disappeared in the straight, and in a good race home Ever Ready finished well to beat Wild Ribbon by half a length, with Night Fighter a length away. Wee Mac was fourth, followed by Tikakoura. Gay Joy, and Rampage.. Oamaru Trot Handicap Kahurangi and Highland Dale went away on a broken gait and lost a lot of ground. The early leaders were Colin Waters, Glenwellyn, Balcurvie, Jan Marie, Marcia and Locknit There was no alteration running down the back, except that Hydro Belle moved through the field to take fourth place before they reached the bottom bend. Colin Waters, was first into the straight from Glenwellyn, Hydro Belle, Locknit, Special Effort and Balcurvie. Hydro Belle took the lead a furlong from home to win by two lengths from Glenwellyn, with Colin Waters the same distance away. Special Effort was 'fourth, followed by Balcurvie, Marcia and Locknit. *“ Flying Handicap Avonbridge broke away and galloped a mile before he could be pulled up. The field was sent away without him. Derene began best, and led out from Whitley, Velvet Slipper, and Denary. With four furlongs to run the order was Derene, Whitley, Denary, Palm Bearer, and Velvet Slipper, with Mysterious Melody dropping away. Turning for home Whitley • started to move up to the leader, but never looked like heading her, and Derene went away to win by a clear length, with Palm Bearer beating Denary for third, with Velvet Slipper fifth. Farewell Handicap Blue Maid and Hot Foot got the worst of the start, and Cloud Song led out from Beautiful, Brigg Fair, and Silverstream. At the four-furlor.g peg Brigg Fair took up the running from Beautilul, Silverstream, Cloud Song, Air Lord, Lyndon Lea, and Don’t Regret. Brigg Fair was iirlt into the straight from Beautiful, Silverstream, Cloud Song, and Air Lord. Brigg Fair began to stop, and with a furlong to run Beautiful hit the front and went on to win from Air Lord, with Cloud Song third, and then came Don’t Regret, Brigg Fair, Blue Hussar, and Silverstream.
