RANFURLY

CRICKET A special match between Keegan’s Eleven and Knowles's Eleven was played on Saturday on the Ranfurly ground. The former team was selected from the Patearoa Club and the latter from Ranfurly with the inclusion of Harley (Becks) and Klitscher (Naseby). The match provided the best cricket seen this season at Ranfurly. J. W. Blakely bowled exceptionally well, finishing with the figures six wickets for 32 off 16 overs. He also topped the batting scores with 67 retired. Knowles's team batted first and after the first wicket fell with the score at IT, Harley (43) and Macassey (39) carried the score to 91 before Harley was dismissed. The remaining wickets fell cheaply and they were all out for 132. Bowling for Keegan's team J. W. Blakely took six for 32, J. Mathias one for 31, Duffy one for 18. and G. Mathias one for 17. Keegan’s Eleven made a poor start with the first two wickets falling for two runs. J. W. Blakely (67 retired) and J. Mathias (23), however, placed their side in a good position. The team made 181, the other batsmen to reach double figures being E. Blakely (17). Duffy (19) and Olsen (17 retired). The best bowlers for Knowles’s team were Macassey who took two for 27, J. C. Kearney two for 60, Inder two for 18, and Harley one for 12. Colts’ Match Junior teams representing the north and south ends of the county played a match on Saturday at Patearoa. The south team won by 28 runs. The winners compiled 153, the top scores being Lynch (21), A. Blakey (52), McGill (16), G. Inder two for 32, I. Inder two for 35, and Dagg two for 15. North scored 125 runs of which Becker made 19, I. Inder 12, P. Dagg 15, G. Inder 22, Cambridge 16. Bowling for the South Andrews took three for 17, McSkiming two for 18, Lynch two for 6, A Blakely one for 24, Thurlow two for 9. County Competition The second round of the County Competition will be continued on Saturday when the draw will be as follows:—Ranfurly A v. Patearoa B, Patearoa A v. Oturehua, Becks v. Naseby, Hyde v. Ranfurly B. The committee has decided that the match that was postponed from- the beginning of the season will be played on the first available date after the conclusion of the second round. PONY GYMKHANA A successful pony gymkhana was organised by the Mamototo Light Horse and Pony Club/ recently. The fudge, Mr R. Paterson, commented favourably upon the improved standard of riding.
