January 4 .. .. Southland R.C. January 10, 11 .. Vincent J.C. Jan. 11, 18. 22, 25 .. Wellington R.C. Jottings Paper Raid paid over a score and ahalf when he finished third In the Trial Stakes at Oamaru. He is a four-year-oid by Paper Slipper from Sea Raid. Racket broke down in the Pukeuri Handicap and was pulled up about five furlongs from home. Derene led all the way to win the Flying Handicap at Oamaru. The brilliant Defaulter galloper easily held Whitley off in the run up the straight. Night Fighter appeared to get boxed when turning for home in the Waitaki Handicap. With a clear run he would have been hard to beat. At one stage in the President’s Handicap at Oamaru Falconbridge started to move up from the back, but he did not sustain his run. The grey is slow to find his feet at the start of a race. Finished Better Double Cross finished much better in the President’s Handicap at Oamaru than he did in the Waikouaiti Cup, and he beat the others as easily as A 1 Sirat beat him. Petered Out Brigg Fair 'was made the each-way favourite for the Farewell Handicap at Oamaru, and had every chance. After being prominent from the start, he petered out in the straight. Came Again Sedgemere was travelling like a placegetter when the field turned for home in the High-weight Handicap at Oamaru. Halfway down the straight he appeared to be stopping, but he came again and finished just outside a place. Finished Well Petty Cash was the unlucky runner in the Pukeuri Handicap. He was one of the last to leave the barrier, and was only a neck and a head away from the winner at the finish. Had he got away well, the Te Monanui gelding would have been hard to beat. Just Too Far Robot finds a six-furlong race Just a bit too far for him. He was one of the leaders for most of the way in the Trial Handicap, and hung on for fourth. A five-furlong race at one of the minor meetings might suit him. His Best Race A 1 Sirat ran his best race for some time to win the President’s Handicap at Oamaru. Galloping generously, he was handy to the leaders half a mile from home. A fast run took him out to the front as they turned for home, and lie galloped right away in the home stretch.
