TUESDAY, DECEMBER 31 (Before Messrs H. E. Barth, J.P., and G. J. Errington, J.P. Remanded in Custody On a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond, to which he pleaded guilty, Lawrence Leonard William Nicholas, a farmhand, aged 24, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody to January 6. The charge sheet stated that the accused was deemed to be a rogue and a vagabond in that he did attempt to impose upon Charles Millard Tapper by falsely representing that he had arranged the tenancy of a flat at Auckland for the complainant, who had incurred the expense of a toll call to Auckland.—Chief Detective Hall said that other charges were pending, and accordingly asked for a remand. Car Conversion Alleged “The defendant is unable to appear as he is in hospital,” said Senior Sergeant J. H. Hogg, when asking that James Leon Lewis be remanded to appear on January 6 on a charge of unlawfully converting a motor car, valued at £325, belonging to Stuart Watson, at Dunedin, on December 30. —The remand was granted.
