(Special) CHRISTCHURCH. Jan. 1. Plunder Bar, after breaking at the start, headed Navigate after two furlongs in the Canterbury Handicap with In the Mood. Lody Dawn, and Trusty Scott following. There was little change in the order to the home turn where Lady Dawn retired while Loyal Friend and Turco moved up. Plunder Bar was still in front 50 yards from the post, but Navigate niace a late dash, beating him easily by ■ a length. Turco finished fast, only a neck away with In the Mood, Trusty Scott, and' Safety Pin heading the others in a bunch. Navigate paced his last half-mile In one minute. .', - < Cameronian took charge after a furlong in the C. S. Howell Handicap and stayed there. Dundee Sandy, Dunmore, Jacks Son and Gamble King followed him most of the way. Jack's Son retired at the home turn and Cameronian had to be driven out to stall off the challenge of Dundee Sandy while Dunmore lasted just long enough to beat Sea Born for third, with Jack's Son heading the others. Won Decisively Golden Amazon took the lead after two furlongs in the Introductory Handicap and stayed there, winning decisively. Blackdale and Belle Header followed him most of the way but Loyal Flier made the last dash to finish second. Great Venture, the second favourite, broke at the start. Safari led all the way in' the Irwell Handicap. Manpower, Northern Lass and Wade Lane followed her to the straight where Northern Lass retired. Windermere then joined In but Safari stayed on well to win by a length while Windermere beat Wade Lane narrowly with Tam o’Shanter and Task Force close up. The well-backed Quite Happy never looked dangerous. Narrow Win The trotter. Rangefinder, tried to lead all the way in the Lyttelton Handicap. Rural Lady followed him from the start while Theabelle took third place half a mile from home. This was the order when the straight was reached but Lady Spray, always handy, came through on the inside to win by a head while the photo showed that Theabelle beat Rangefinder for second. Rural Lady and Golden Game were close up. _ , Freckles led all the way in the Stevvards Handicap and won easily from Willie Winkle, who was always prominent, with Lee Berry tiring to finish a poor third. Then came Royal Dale, who dropped back at the home turn, Rerewaka and Beverley Volo. The two chief win fancies broke soon after the start. v Sir Michael Again Special Force set the pace in the Islington Handicap with Margaret Hall and Elvo’s Pride soon heading the others. Margaret Hall was in charge from Elvo’s Pride three furlongs from home, where Sir Michael took third place after a fast run from a good way back. Special Force retired a little further on and Sir Michael had the measure of Margaret Hall 50 yards from the post and stalled off a late challenge of Native Scott to win by a neck. Margaret Hall was another neck away, Watcher and Elvo’s Pride being next, a long way back. Limerick Pride lead till three furlongs from home in the Templeton Handicap, when the favourite, Scholarship, headed him and led to the straight. Absolutely then dashed up to win easily. Scholarship made little fight and was also headed in turn bv Limerick Pride and Dandy Grattgn. The second favourite, Bonny Bridge, broke at the start where Dandy Grattan also lost a lot of ground. Marco Polo went well to the home turn, but was lame when he pulled up.
