CANTERBURY TITLES MANY HOLDERS DFEATED (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 30. All the senior titles but the Women s Doubles changed hands at the Canterbury Tennis Championships, which were concluded to-day. The tournament produced many surprises in the earlier rounds, the defeat of S. Painter by R. G. Pattinson, and N. V. Edwards by S Watson in the Men’s Singles and of Miss M. Beverley, New Zealand champion, and Mrs J. McVay, both by Mrs K Hart, being the main upsets. In the Women’s Doubles the New Zealand champions, Mesdames J .Graham and McVay, were beaten with the loss of three games by Misses E.
Attwood and M. Burrell. Results of the finals are as follows: Men’s Singles.—R. S. McKenzie beat Pattinson 6—2, 6 —l. Women’s Singles.—Miss Attwood beat Mrs Hart 6 —l, 7—9, 6—2. Men’s Doubles.—McKenzie and N. V. Edwards beat J. E. Robson and O. M. Bold 7—5, 6 —4. _ T r Women’s Doubles.—Miss M. L. Kerr and Mrs J. H. Adams beat Misses Attwood and Burrell 3 —6, 7—5, 6—l. Mixed Doubles— McKenzie and Mrs McVay beat Bold and Mrs Hart 6—2, 4—6, 15—13. WELLINGTON TOURNAMENT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 30. Two Hutt Valley players, R. V. Robb and Mrs Robb, won the Men’s and Women's Senior Singles respectively, as well as the Mixed Doubles, in the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association’s championships, except for the Women's Doubles. In addition to this Robb won the Men’s Doubles in partnership with R. Ferkins, and Mrs Robb, with Mrs I. Gyles, has reached the final of the Women’s Doubles, which were postponed because of the absence of one of the players.
