EMBASSY BOMBING
ESCAPING SUSPECT DIES ROME, Dec. 29. Zep' Epstein, the Polish Jewish professor who was arrested in connection with the bombing of the British Embassy in Rome and was shot while trying to escape died last night. Epstein’s lawvei said that before ne died Epstein expressed regret for having belonged to the Irgun Zvai Leumi and '* begged the pardon ” for all, especially the police Epstein nid a rope smuggled to him ' m a parcel marked U N.R.R.A., according to the newspaper Messagero lhe guard shot Epstein while ht was atempting to lower himself from a window. The newspaper adds that Epstein hoped to reach the sanctuary of the Vatican.
