Mrs W. 0. McKellar, of Manor place, has returned from a holiday in Wanaka. Mrs Peter Riley, of Lauder, is visiting Dunedin, Miss Cecily Ramsay, of Queen’s drive, is the guest of Mrs T. Stewart, of Queenstown. Miss I. D. Renton returned to Dunedin by air last Wednesday after a six months’ visit to Australia. Miss Marjorie Armstrong, of Oamaru, is the guest of Mrs H. J. Ryburn, of Knox College. Mrs S. M. Satterthwaite, of Cliffs road, left for Christchurch on Tuesday. Miss Peggy Knibb, the Australian soprano, who has been visiting Dunedin, left for Auckland yesterday. Miss Shirley Chambers, of Richardson street, left Auckland this week by plane for Sydney. Miss Chambers’s future home will be at Belvue Hill, Bondi. Mr and Mrs Chambers and their small son, Billie, will join her in the New Year. Mrs J. M. O’Callaghan and her sister, Mrs L. Hobbs, will leave for Wanaka on Tuesday. Miss Dorothy Jackson will accompany them. Miss Margaret Scott is the guest of her aunt. Miss Marion Scott, of Herlot row, for a brief visit before leaving for England to be married. Recent hostesses for Miss Yvonne Denniston, whose marriage to Mr Ronald Slater will take place to-morrow, have been Mrs P. Schoon, Mrs Stanley Slater, Miss N. Skinner, and Miss B. Jenkins. Mr and Mrs G. G. Denniston, of Invercargill, Mr and Mrs W. Slater, of Wanganui, and Mr and Mrs L. H. Denniston, of Alexandra, will arrive in Dunedin to-day to attend the Slater—Denniston wedding to-morrow afternoon. Mrs Stanley Harris, president of the Kindergarten Graduates’ Association, was the hostess at a dinner party at the City Hotel last night, when thisfyear’s graduates were the guests of the association. Mr and Mrs Guy L. Tapley, of Dunottar, and Mr and Mrs Colin Tapley, of Wanaka, have left for Invercargill to attend the marriage of Mr Brian Tapley and Miss Margaret Moffett.
The Combined Kindergarten Mothers’ Clubs entertained Miss A. Duthie, the retiring principal of the Dunedin Free Kindergartens, at a presentation evening on Monday. Mrs K. Alldred, president of the Mothers' Clubs, referred to the valuable work of Miss Duthie during the last 22 years, and, on behalf of the mothers, presented her with a standard lamp. At the home of Miss Jean Stewart, of Balmacewen road, Miss Duthie was recently entertained by the kindergartens staff and presented with an antique framed mirror. The kindergarten students also entertained Miss Duthie and made a presentation of a piece of crystal. The committee of the Kiwi Amateur Swimming Club entertained members of the Aquacade swimming show at a social function in the Caledonian Club on Monday evening. The president (Mr E. C. Isaacs) occupied the chair, and the guests Included the Mayor (Mr Cameron), who is a patron of the club, Mr S. Brown (co-patron), the president of the Otago Swimming Centre (Mr D. F. Watson), and Captain L. O. Asten, conductor of the Band of the Ist Battalion, Otago Regiment. The evening was spent in dahcing, and pianoforte selections were given by Mr V. M. Horn and Miss Margaret Horn. At the supper interval, the Mayor presented each member of the Aquacade with a special photograph of the cast. The producer (Mr D. Forsyth) returned thanks on behalf of the recipients
