LABOUR CABINET SPOT
SERIOUS DIFFERENCES BRETTON WOODS RATIFICATION (Rec. 0.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, Dec. 5. Differences of opinion over the Bretton Woods plan have split the “ Old Guard” which had dominated the Federal Parliamentary Labour Party during the Curtin and Chifley_ Governments, says the Sydney Sun's correspondent. Old Guard Ministers who voted against the Cabinet recommendation for Bretton Woods ratification included the Labour Minister, Mr E. J Holloway, and the Air Minister, Mr A. S. Drakefora. Cabinet newcomers, the Navy Minister, Mr W. J. Riordan, and the Army Minister, Mr C. Chambers, are also stated to have been against ratification. Indicative of the shock the party leaders feel is the fact that Parliament, scheduled to continue sitting until the end of next week, is now likely to rise to-morrow. Only Opposition prolongation of the debate is likely to keep it going after Friday. Labour’s leaders want to reach the haven of recess as socn as possible.
