SMART EFFORT BY KIRKELLA (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 5. The conditions were pleasant for the work at Riccarton this morning. There was a lot of useful galloping on the outside of the course, while the plough was also in use On the grass, Kirkella did the best mile, being too good for Lord Advocate, in lmin 43 l-ssec. This is an extra good novice. Golden Souvenir was a neck in front of Hormuz and Tremello in lmin 44 l-ssec. Racket beat Eriskay by a neck in lmin 45. l-ssec. Ruling Moment did lmin 46 3-ssec, while Wildfire and Nightchild went easily in lmin 48 2-ssec. Soneri and Royal Tan set the main for seven furlongs, with the former half a length in front in lmin 29 3-ssec. Double Cross beat Avonbridge by a head in lmin 36 2-ssec, while Rahine and Falconbridge, separtely, each registered lmin 30 4-ssec. Scotch Tweed took lmin 31 4-ssec while Bruce and Detain were not hurried to do lmin 33 2-ssec, and Robingay and Dark Arrow going very easily in lmin 35sec. Mohtezuma ran six furlongs in lmm 17 4-ssec, Queen’s General following easily * Dash, working early, .showed great speed to run five furlongs in lmin 1 4-ssec, the last four in 48 4-ssec Benbecula was half a length in front of Denary, with six lengths to Lady Chips, in lmin 1 3-ssec, the last four in 49sec. Pacific Star did 49 l-ssec alone. .Garry broke away in front and then waited for Battle Abbey, finishing up in 49 3-ssec, equalled by Kartikeya, who ran away from Lament. All Quality and Rockway were on terms in 50sec, while Peculate did 50 l-ssec, equalled by Carry On, who Just beat Morning Watch, while Grand Melee and Hart Royal took 50 2-ssec. Beau Ideal shaded Lovemorn in 50 3-ssec, and Piccolo ran down easily in 52 4-ssec. ■ Zorro and Erinmore went on the No. » grass track, the former being a head in front at the end of three furlongs in 37sec. Lord Elgin and Riverview went at an even pace over a mile in lmin 45 l-ssec, while Graeme was a neck in front of Lady Welbeck at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 31 2-ssec.
