CHRISTMAS PARCELS
TROOPS IN JAPAN EARLY ARRIVAL ASSURED (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 31. Although fears have been expressed that parcels recently posted to the armed forces in Japan would not reach there by Christmas, it was stated by post office officials to-day that they expected the shipment to reach that country in ample time for distribution before then. It is several weeks since the last parcels were despatched, and although a large number of bags of parcels had accumulated, no difficulty was anticipated in clearing then when transport arrived. It was pointed out that Auckland was the collection centre for the whole of New Zealand for parcels for Japan, and that they would be loaded here on the Nellore. No definite schedule is available for the Nellore, which is due from Sydney on Monday, but the vessel will proceed to Wellington and Lyttelton before sailing for Japan direct. A trip from Lyttelton to Kure is planned, and the Nellore should clear New Zealand before the end of the month, and thus arrive several days before Christmas
