LABOUR WEEK-END
BAKING ARRANGEMENTS (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 21 No bread will be baked in Auckland between Thursday night and Monday night and as the result, housewives will have to provide for a long Labour Day week-end by ordering extra bread 'on Thursday as well as their usual quantity on Friday. Mr A. E. Brownlie, president of the Auckland Master Bakers’ Association, said to-day that housewives would not be able to add to Friday’s orders because working hours on Thursday night could not be extended beyond the 14 hours already worked to cope with the demand for the week-end. The extra bread needed for Labour Day would therefore have to be baked on Wednesday night.
