TROTTING NOTES
By Sentinel October 26, 28 .. Auckland T.C. October 26, 28 .. Greymouth T.C. October 28 .. .. Oamaru T.C. Jottings Handicaps for the Invercargill meeting are due on Thursday. The Auckland Cup, for a 4mln 24sec class, will have a stake of £3500. Mistydale will have her next race in the Invercargill Cup, and will then be taken to Addington for the Cup meeting Limerick Pride never looked like losing the Royal Handicap on Saturday, and appeared to have something in hand at the finish. He is a half-brother by Logan Fraser to Battle Colours. Consistent Pacer With two wins and a second, Stimulant was one of the outstanding performers at the Forbury Park meeting. Mr H. W. Prewery paid £IOOO for the Grattan Loyal gelding, and has won £1782 in stakes with him, his record being 14 places in 17 races. Bed Shadow Gelding Shadow Chimes Is building up a consistent record, and so far this season has won twice and been placed three times. R. Townley has the Red Shadow pacer in solid condition, and he should have a good season. Speedy, But Unsteady Lee Berry has the speed to win from his present mark, but is liable to break his gait when the pace is fully turned on. The first time he goes smoothly from barrier to post he will be a hard horse to beat. A Southern Prospect Lady VI went a good race in the Royal Handicap on Saturday to spit second and third money with Stirling Castle. Lady Vi is by Sandydale from Wild Pigeon, and looks a good prospect for some of the southern meetings. Unreliable Trotter There is no doubt about Castigate’s speed, but he is unreliable and at times breaks for no apparent reason. If ever he can be persuaded to do his best In each of his races he will not be out of place among the top-liners. Trotted Steadily Who Knows was never very far from the leaders In the Tahuna Handicap, and his steadiness took him into third place. A six-year-old by Quite Sure from Jenny Bell, jun., he is one of G. Cameron's team, in which are Included two smart trotters, Royal Dale and Royal Stone. New Zealand Derby Several of the 39 three-year-old 3 who remain in the final acceptances for the New Zealand Derby are still unregistered, and they will be ineligible to compete, as the rules of trotting state that a horse must be registered 14 days before nomination or final forfeits before it becomes eligible to race.
