LABOUR’S CLAIMS

AID FOR WOMEN MISS HOWARD’S ADDRESS Miss Mabel Howard, M.P. for Christchurch East, the first of the visiting pffiiticians to state the Labour Party’s claims in the Oamaru electorate, .addressed meetings in the Eveline Centennial Hall yesterday afternoon and in the Peter Pan Theatre 'last night. In her address Miss Howard stated that it was apparent that the people of New Zealand were becoming increasingly politically minded and that from her own experience over the past few weeks when she had addressed meetings in Southland and Otago the return of the Labour Party seemed assured. She attributed the'increased interest in politics to the policy of the Government in making provision for the broadcasting of parliamentary sessions, and said she was pleased to see that Australia had followed New Zealand’s lead in this direction. She thought that the British Labour Party was not so progressive as its New Zealand counterpart.
