GERMAN EXPORTS
ASSISTANCE FROM AMERICA REDUCING OCCUPATION COSTS (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 16 Certain German industries in the United States zone will be helped to buy raw materials to build up exports, says Reuter’s Berlin correspondent. This was stated at a press conference attended by Mr George Allen, director of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation of America, Lieutenantgeneral Lucius Clay and Mr Howard Petersen, United States Assistant Secretary for War. The object is to reduce the rising costs of United States occupation, for which the £37,250,000 allowed in the War Department budget for the year ending on May 30 next will not be nearly sufficient. The balances created by exports will be available to the United States Military Government to offset the zone’s food bill and administrative costs.
