CANTEEN GOODS
SUPPLIES FOR J FORCE FIRST CONSIGNMENT FROM DUNEDIN The first consignment of chocolate and biscuits for the J Force, which was arranged for by Colonel W. B. Leonard, Director of the Australian Army 1 Canteen Service, as purchasing officer in Australia and New Zealand for the combined British canteens in Japan, has left Dunedin. The consignment, of 180 tons, was supplied by a num- , her of manufacturers in the city, and formed more than half of the total T, shipment of about 350 tons of con- : fectionery and biscuits sent from New r Zealand. ", The managing director of Cadbury ' Fry Hudson. Ltd.. Mr C. V. Smith, \\ said in an interview with a Daily ’ Times reporter yesterday that it was likely that similar orders would be ’ placed in Dunedin every three or four months, owing to the difficulty of ob- , taining supplies of these goods from Britain and Australia. He added that the sugar used n the manufacture of the consignment had been released independently from that for the local market, so that the supplies of choco- • late and biscuits for the public would L not be affected.
