A WET MONTH
CROPS AND STOCK SUFFER Weather.—The whole of (he district is still very wet and sodden, over seven inches of rain having fallen during the last week in September. There has been considerable losses in stock, mostly lambs, and where the land was low-lying the crops also suffered considerably. It is .difficult as yet to ascertain what crops .will have to be resown. Phenomenal rain at this time of the year will tend in a large measure to alter' growers’ programmes. Wheat.—The Wheat Committee advises that the final date for receiving wheat for the 1945-1946 season has been fixed at November 30. Any growers who have surplus wheat for sale are asked to communicate with their brokers, as all returns for their current season must be in the hands of the Wheat Committee by the end of November. Oats.—There has been nothing to offer for some considerable time, and it would appear that stocks in the country have been cleaned up. It would not be possible to thresh anything in stack for some time owing to the sodden nature of the paddocks. Seeds.—Most seed markets arc very firm. There is still a good inquiry for white and red clovers. The dressing of most lines has been completed, and merchants are aw'aiting tests from the seed testing station before offering these lines. It Is anticipated, when w’cather conditions improve and the ground dries out, that there will be a better inquiry for small seeds. There appears to be little inquiry for cocksfoot.
