MANY OFFICES HELD
SALVATION ARMY COMMANDER (N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent) LONDON, Aug. 28. Mr Ranulph Astbury, appointed Salvation Army Territorial Commander in New Zealand, is at present International Secretary of the Salvation Army, a post which he has held since 1943. Mr Astbury first received his officer’s appointment in 1904. and had been engaged in evangelical work in the East Finchley district for seven years before receiving successive administrative appointments in Bristol. Staffordshire, and Eire. He was then placed in charge of men’s social work at London headquarters, in which he held various important administrative posts, including those of auditor-general, governor of men’s social work, and international secretary. Mr Astbury has travelled extensively in Europe, Canada, and the United States, but has not previously visited New Zealand. He hopes to leave Britain with his wife and family in time ter take up his new post in October.
