SOLDIER CANDIDATES
Sir,—" Matilda’s ” qualifications as an adviser on methods of attaining wisdom are not exactly obvious, but it is her presumption in claiming a logical mind that the writer finds amusing. “ Matilda ” definitely claimed that the wide experiences overseas gave these young National candidates a special qualification. As this stands, it is simply a personal opinion. To make it a logical opinion " Matilda ” must supply facts in support. In two later letters “ Matilda very airily neglects this. I challenge “Matilda” to give us the name of one National supporter whose wide experiences overseas have had any bearing on his convictions; also the details of those experiences. I also challenge ” Matilda ’ to give particulars of the witnessing of the economic chaos in overseas countries which would enable a serviceman to "see the fallibility of Labour." It is significant that " Matidla" has not commented on me writer's remarks on economic conditions ih the very areas where the bulk oi our servicemen saw their service. Unles the above two challenges arc iully met, “Matilda’’ should shun the word logic in any future correspondence.—l am, tec., M. Devereux. Luggate. Aug. 25.
