FOOD FOR BRITAIN
RESPONSE IN OTAGO MORE MEAT COUPONS Contributors in Otago have surrendered a total of 8782 meat coupons, 290 butter coupons, 24 sugar coupons, and 22 tea coupons this week in the “ Food for Britain ” campaign. “ This response, taken on the figures up to 5 p.m., shows that interest is being taken in the campaign in the Otago district.” said the chief postmaster, Mr Ernest J Smith, to a Daily Times reporter last night: He added that although the launching had been delayed, the campaign had been extended for a fortnight, and it was hoped that an increasing number of coupons would be handed daily to the postmasters, postmen, and rural 'delivery com. tractors daily throughout the province. “The target of 100,000 meat coupons for this fortnight is not impossible of achievement,” Mr Smith said. Dunedin had a population of 85,000, and if everyone endeavoured to make a personal sacrifice to help the people of Britain, the city alone should be able to surrender sufficient coupons to make the campaign a success. The respective numbers of coupons collected yesterday were:—-Meat, 2240: butter, 25; sugar, 4; tea, 20. A total of 6885 meat coupons was handed in last week.
