ORGANISATION OF DEPARTMENT

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 28. The New Zealand branch of the British Canc-er Campaign Society decided to-day to organise a department of cancer research, and to call for applications for the position of director at a salary from £IOOO to £I2OO a yearThe meeting also decided to order immediately the basic equipment required for the new department, and to leave any? special equipment required ■4jy the director to be ordered later. It was agreed that the new director should be left free to pursue his particular line of research, subject. however, to advice' of the Medical Research Committee.

The opinion was expressed that some definite date should be set to end contributions to the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. The meeting decided to institute a travelling scholarship in the treatment of cancer of £SOO yearly, not more often than every two years, a proviso being that the holder should return to New Zealand to take up an appointment for a term as a radio therapeutist in one of the cancer clinics.
