Mr Edmund J. Smith left yesterday lor Wellington to attend meetings of the Dominion Executive and Council of the National Party. Commissioner Kanulph Astbury has been appointed territorial commander of the Salvation Army in N6w Zealand, succeeding commissioner J. Evan Smith. Mr H. M. Patrick, Director-general of the Post and Telegraph Department, will return to Dunedin- to-day from Queenstown, where he arrived yesterday afternoon. He will be engaged in departmental business to-night. Reference to flic 'work for the club by Mr F. H. Brough was made by the president, Mr S. G. Styche, at the annual meeting of the Otago Rowing Club last night. Mr Styche wished Mr and Mrs Brough every -success in Invercargill, where Mr Brough has been transferred. , The Public Service Commissioner has appointed Mr R. W. Coupland to be regional manager in the southern States of Australia N in representing the New Zealand Tourist Department. Mr Coupland will be stationed at the New Zealand Government Bureau in Melbourne. He has had considerable previous experience of New Zealand tourist work in Australia, and some years ago spent three years and a-half in Melbourne. Mr Coupland, who is well known in Dunedin cricket circles, has been district manager of the Wellington Tourist Bureau for the past nine years, before which he was district manager tn Christchurch and Dunedin.

G. Bell, Mrs P. J. Cartwright. Mr G. McKinnon, Miss J. Miller, and Mrs M. Adams for Wellington, Mrs James Hogg. Mr R. Quinn and Mr B. E, Morris for Auckland. Those who arrived from the north were Mrs C. Fairmaid, Mrs P. Le Courteur and Mr D. Lee from Auckland. Miss B. Reid and Mr F. Lollerton front Palmerston North, Mrs W. L. Dodds, Mr J. J. Lodge. Mrs Russell, Mr C. ’Sander, Mr A. Fraser, Mr T. G. Young, Mr C D. Dagg, Mrs C. Taylor, Mr R. L Clark, and Mr R. M. Shaw, from Wellington. Mr H. S. Walker and Mr J. W. Crust from Christchurch. Passengers for the south were Miss L. Campbell, Mr F. Dreifuss and Mr C. Bradfield.
