EMPIRE THEATRE
A spectacular Western production, " The Virginian," filmed in beautiful technicolor to catch the grandeur of the scenery, is the main attraction in to-morrow’s new programme at the Empire Theatre. In addition to such stars as Joel McCrea. Brian Donlevy and Sonny Tufts, the picture Includes in a powerful supporting cast such fine players as Barbara Britton, Fay Bamter, Henry O’Neill, Bill Edwards, Tom Tully, Marc Lawrence and many others. The exact locale chosen for the filming of this picture was Sonora, which provided just the right background for the re-creation of Owen Wister’s famous story. McCrea is seen in the title role, and Donlevy as a super cattle-rustler. Twice before McCrea was cast as hero and Donlevy as " heavy ” when the two appeared in " Barbary Coast " and ” Union Pacific.” They are probably the two most companionable “ enemies" in filmdon, since the two men are excellent friends off-screen.
