NOTES FROM RICCARTON

(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 27. There was a cold southerly wind at Riccarton this morning, with light rain, making wintry conditions during working hours. The No. 8 grass track was in good order, but there was little of interest in the work on the flat.

Sea Dog and Montello d'Oro were mates in a good exhibition of jumping over four hurdles. These two may be seen in the hurdle race at Ashburton.

Burberry, after some education in his trainer’s paddock, followed by, a trial last week over the pony obstacles, was schooled over six hurdles, giving a very attractive display, R. Register hopes to give the Man’s Pal gelding his first hurdle race at the Geraldine meeting. Prince Dolomite has been turned out and he will be spelled for a few months. When he comes back, E. Rosewarne will educate him with a view to steeplechasing next winter.

L. J. Ellis has his team In strong work, and his six horses are all well forward for spring engagements. Golden Souvenir and Bruce may be raced at Washdyke in October, as a preliminary to a trip to Awapuni for the Wellington Racing Club's meeting later in that month. R. B. Robinson has the three-year-old sister to Olga’s Choice doing good work, and she may have her first race at Ashburton. The Auckland owner, Mr W. Hosking, has sent another of his horses to Riccarton, and C. H. Fairman will prepare her for early racing. She is the five-year-old mare. Gay Joy, by Cambria Park from the Australian-bred Llandovery, by Mountain Knight. She won a seven furlong race last season.

COMBINED HUNT MEETING (P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Aug 27. Mountain Fox 7.7 was omitted from the telegraphed list of aceptors for the Halcome Handicap in the fields for the combined Hunt Club meeting on Saturday Aqueduct is not an acceptor for the Halcome Handicap and Oriental Lady and Lu Chang are not accetpors for the cup.
