Breaking and Entering Charges . John Francis Samuel Keen, a labourer, aged 22. was charged with breaking and entering the premises of Mosgiel Motors, Ltd., on July 23 last, and stealing .herefrom 13 motor tyres valued at £124 11s. the property of Trevor Lewis Gibson. There was a further charge of breaking and entering the premises of Dash s Motors, Waimate, on July 28, ana the theft of 22 motor tyres, three tubes, a wheel, and a perambulater, of a total value of £ll7 10s, the property of Eric Dash.—The accused, who was represented by Mr C. H. Stevens, was remanded until Monday next. Licensing Case Patrick Parnell, on a charge of removing liquoi from licensed premises after hours, entered a plea of guilty, and was fined 40s and costs (10s). Sunday Trading James William Hyslop, a shopkeeper in King street, was fined 20s and costs (10s) for Sunday trading. Firearm Without Permit Coil Stuart MacDonald, for procuring a firearm without permit, was convicted without penalty. Committed for Sentence William Stacey Carnegie, a labourer, aged 20, and Kenneth Charles Carter, a painter, aged 23, were jointly charged with breaking and entering the premises of W J. Haynes, Ltd., and stealing a cheque book and other articles of a total value of £2 12s 6d, and with breaking and entering the premises of the McKinlay Footwear Company and stealing three packets of tobacco and other articles of a total value of 11s 4d. There were three charges of forgery against Carter in respect of cheques. Mr J. G. Warrington appeared for Carnegie and Mr C. J. L. White for Carter.—William John Haynes, a director of W J. Haynes, Ltd., gave evidence of his firm’s premises having been broken into end the theft of a number of cheque forms, a tyre gauge, and a number of other articles. The cheques (produced) purporting to be signed bv "E. M. Haynes,” and "K. Car ter ” were not genuine. There were pencil marks over the signatures of his wife and himself in the company’s minute book, which showed that they had been traced over.—Hugh Owen McKinlay, a director of McKinlay’s Footwear Co., Ltd., gave evidence stating that the firm's factory had been entered and a number of articles removed. —Detective A W. McDougall produced statements made by the accused when they had been interviewed at the detective’s office on August 20. A total sum of £2B 10s had been obtained in goods and money as the result of forged cheques.—The accused pleaded guilty and were committed to the Sunreme Court for sentence.—On the application of Mr White the accused Carnegie was ordered to»be examined by Dr Malcolm Brown.
