NEW VESSELS
FOR' DOMINION WATERS
For service between the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Australia, nine vessels are under construction, or have been completed, for the New Zealand Shipping Company and the Federal Steam Navigation Company. The Devon was built by Alexander Stephens for the Federal Steam Navigation Company, Ltd., and made her maiden voyage in March of this year. She is a refrigerated cargo turbine steamer of 9940 tons gross, ana Is driven by a • single screw. The Somerset is at present being built by Alexander Stephens, and will be delivered to the New Zealand Shipping Company, Ltd., about the end of September. She is a refrigerated cargo turbine steamer of 10,000 tons deadweight. The Norfolk was launched at Clydebank on June 13 last from John Brown and Co.’s yards. She is a twin-screw refrigerated cargo motor ship of 11,100 tons gross, and will be ready for service with the Federal Company about January, 1947. 'The Hurunui is being built at Vickers Armstrongs for the New Zealand, .Shipping Company She is a twin-screw motor ship of 11,150 - tons gross, and will be ready about April, 1947. , ... . The Haparangi, which is being built; at John Brown’s for the New Zealand Shipping Company, is a twin-screw motor ship of 11,000 tons gross, and will be ready about May, 1947. The Hertford Is bemg built at Vicker3 Armstrongs for the Federal Company She Is a twin-screw motor ship of 11,150 tons gross, and will be ready about August, 1947.
The Huntingdon, a twin-screw motor ship of 11,150 tons gross, is being built bv Alexander Stephens for the Federal Company, and will be ready about November, 1947. The Cumberland, which Is being built by Alexander Stephens for the Federal Steam Company, is a twin-screw motor ship of 11,150 tons gross, and will be ready about March, 1948. The Rangitoto is being built at Vickers Armstrong’s for the New Zealand Shipping Company She is a twin-screw passenger and cargo motor liner of 19,000 tons gross, and will be ready about April, 1948.
